Today we had a visit from Cathy Cassidy who is one of the countries most famous children’s authors. She talked about her journey to to success from day dreaming in class and trying to get “Jackie” to publish her short stories to writing her very popular and successful series of books. Hopefully there were a few future writers in today’s audience.

This year we learned Scottish poems for the year of Homecoming for our poetry competition. Our winners were Ellen, Theo, Ruth, Kimberly and Emily. Before the competition we had fun getting messy doukin’ fur apples.

PC Bruton came to the school to talk about his job in the police force . His talk was very informative and the class had great fun asking him questions about the different challenges he faces every day at work. We also had a visit from Gillian Smith who spoke about being a jockey. Everyone was impressed by her presentation ( and the delicious chocolate cakes she brought in). Unfortunately she is a little shy so we have no photos of the event, but I am sure the children will remember it as a highlight of career’s week.

As you can see from the photographs P4 & 5 had a great time at the Wigtown Writers’ Festival. They heard three different authors reading from their books and were able to ask them questions about their work and what had inspired them to become writers. P 6 went to Wigtown to hear different authors - unfortunately they were so busy having fun they didn’t take any photos!

This term we have been have lots of fun solving problems. Our topic is based on Professor Layton’s curious village and the class had to work their way round the village solving lots of different problems as they went. It has been so popular that some of the P6s have started working on Prosfessor Layton and Pandora’s box. In the pictures you can see some examples of the different types of problems we have been looking at.
